The Calm Before the Storm.

When we left off, I had just gotten through telling you about how our hospital stay began. In this post, I’ll tell you how it went for part of our stay, before and while having our baby.

So for those of you who have had an extended stay in a hospital, for whatever reason, you know that:

1. Hospital food is bland and menus only change once (twice if you’re lucky) a week.

2. Nurses having to come in every 2 hours to do rounds, SUCKS and sleep is nonexistent.

3. Anything can change in an instant.

Our stay was going just as expected for the first week.. Dr. P had given me two steroid shots, to help the baby’s lungs mature. If you’ve had these for a premature baby, you know they hurt like the dickens, OUCH! I had no more contraction’s and I was allowed to walk about my room a little bit.

To say I was bored, was an understatement! I had already finished one book, four puzzles, multiple coloring pages, and had restarted Grey’s Anatomy on Netflix for the third time. But boring was good in our case.. it meant the baby was not trying to make an appearance yet.

During my daily blood pressure checks, the nurses noticed that my blood pressure was still continuing to go up. The decision was made to bring in another doctor. This was a Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) doctor that deals with high risk pregnancies like ours. Right away, he decided that we were going to test for the obvious, preeclampsia. One of the MANY scary words for an expecting momma-to-be.

Unfortunately, the test came back positive. I was put on a blood pressure medication that was safe for both baby and I, and we decided to meet for a team meeting. I’m that meeting, it was decided that we should set a date to induce because it was no longer in our best interest to keep baby inside. Preeclampsia and PPROM (Preterm Premature Rupture of the Membranes, ex. my water breaking) made infection too high of a risk.

August 28th, 2020.. 1 month and 12 days before his due date. This was the day we got induced..

5am, we got wheeled down to labor and delivery. A nurse got us all set up and Dr. P came in and got the induction started. She didn’t believe that it would take very long because he was so little. We got settled and waited for things to progress. Luckily, we chose the right day because the first movie in a Harry Potter marathon had just began. SCORE!

I’ll skip all the details between 5am on the 28th, and 1am the 29th. 20 hours and still no baby!!! It was the longest wait of my life!! Dr. P said she was giving me 4 more hours or we would have to do a C-Section. None of this was apart of my birth plan, but getting the chance to have a natural birth was the only thing that I got to control, so we prayed that something would help this labor progress! The peanut ball was IT!

Luckily, right after that talk with Dr. P, our little man decided to get a move on and less than an hour later we had our perfect little guy right in our arms!! If you ask Rayden, he is still salty about the stirrup being broken and him actually having to do something, which was to hold my leg up! Ha!

Crew Beckett Resco, was born at 1:51am weighing 5lbs 1oz and 19 inches long!! Our hearts were bursting!! AHHH!! We got a quick little cuddle in, before he was rushed down to the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit). I was doing just fine, so Rayden went with Crew.

We were so blessed that everything was going so great!! But do you remember the 3 things I said you would know if you’ve ever stayed in a hospital?? Go back up and reread number 3.
